From our carving workshop, another significant project has emerged, commissioned by the Tourist Board of Stara Novalja – the “Viewpoint of the Old Novalja Fishing Posts” at Ded, Stara Novalja. This unique project was conceived by the excellent local architect Marija Mia Peranić and our PhD artist Dina Jakšić Pavasović in collaboration with visual communication designer Goran Pavasović.
The aim of building the viewpoint was to educate tourists and locals about the tradition of Stara Novalja as a fishing town, its historical way of life, and the names of fishing stations (“post”). The viewpoint offers a stunning view of the Stara Novalja Bay, Punta Luno, Rab Island, and part of the Velebit Channel.
As part of the project, we created six unusual modern stone benches made from Brački stone, designed to resemble the surface of the sea. The central stone element features a wind rose, along with the directions of surrounding fishing stations. The benches are crafted to slope down to a lower level, creating seating areas for children and adults. This unikatni projekt od bračkog kamena idealno spaja tradiciju i modernost.
The Viewpoint of the Old Novalja Fishing Posts project was financed through the 6th FLAG Call for Proposals under Measure 2.A.1. for the development of tourist attractions related to the fishing tradition of the LAGUR Tramuntana area, with a total amount of €38,878.61 (85% EU funds, 15% Croatian funds).
