Hrvatica – a work by academic sculptor Lovre Jakšić

- the sculpture Hrvatica is one of the earlier but highly recognisable works of academic sculptor Lovre Jakšić. This monumental sculpture of a woman, carved from white Brač stone, stands at the centre of a beautifully crafted fountain, forming a harmonious whole that unites art, craftsmanship and the natural character of the stone. Our workshop carried out the complete production — the stone sculpture of the woman was shaped by Lovre Jakšić, while the fountain, composed of massive stone elements, was fully made by our stonemasonry team. The fountain is designed as two large concave stone bowls, with water gently flowing from the upper into the lower, creating a calm visual rhythm and enhancing the monumentality of the sculpture. At its centre stands the female figure — stylised, balanced and refined, shaped in Jakšić’s distinctive artistic language. The woman, dressed in a flowing stone dress, holds the Croatian coat of arms firmly and proudly. This motif gives the sculpture emotional depth, turning it into a quiet symbol of heritage, identity and the strength of women. The dress is sculpted with an expressive play of textures, alternating between smooth and rough surfaces. This contrast highlights the form and movement and reflects the sculptor’s intimate understanding of stone — a material that demands patience, skill and sensitivity. As a monumental sculpture created according to the client’s wishes, the work is fully adapted to the visual and spatial context of the private property where it stands. Its presence creates harmony between form, water and landscape, while the noble surface of white Brač stone ensures long-lasting beauty. This work represents the union of traditional stonemasonry, contemporary artistic vision and monumental form — proof that stone, in the hands of a master, becomes a timeless symbol of beauty and pride.
