Jaksic Stonemasonry Workshop and Gallery in Donji Humac shapes white Brač stone for made-to-measure tombs, stone façades and cladding, sculpture, monuments and public spaces.
The workshop is led by Dražen Jakšić, with Lovre and Dina Jakšić continuing the family practice. Each commission begins with a conversation, a drawing and a choice of stone suited to the setting, purpose and finish.

We make tombs and grave monuments for a particular family and place. Proportion, inscription, relief and the stone finish are considered together.
Explore tombs →We make stone façades and cladding for houses, villas and public buildings. Dimensions, joints and surface finish are adapted to the architecture.
Explore stone façades →Original sculpture and carved work are made for galleries, burial places, sacred buildings and public spaces, in response to the stone and location.
Explore sculpture →For civic, institutional and memorial commissions, explore our stone monuments and work for public spaces.
The process begins with its purpose and location. After reviewing photographs, the site or architectural drawings, we agree on the stone, dimensions and finish before work in the workshop and installation.
We learn about the life of the person being remembered and their family. Their character and achievements shape an original drawing and a complete new form for the tomb.
We choose the stone, dimensions and surface finish to suit the drawing, the conditions at the burial plot and the details to be made.
Each element is cut, carved and shaped to the approved drawing. We check the proportions, joints and details that give the tomb its finished character.
We first assemble the tomb in the workshop so the client can see and approve the complete work. Only then do we transport it to the cemetery for final installation.

White Brač stone demands a careful choice of block and finish. A hand-tooled surface responds to light differently from honed or polished stone, and every detail must belong to the façade, burial place, interior or public space for which it is made.
