Creating a Tomb Sculpture – the Girl and her Dog

Our stone workshop is currently working on a highly demanding and deeply emotional project: the creation of a full-figure sculpture of a girl and her beloved dog, to be placed on a tomb. This work is both an artistic challenge and a personal memorial, telling a story of love, friendship, and loyalty. This monumental work was created by our sculptor Lovre Jakšić.

Material – White Brač Stone

As with many of our works, the chosen material is white Brač stone, renowned for its purity, durability, and noble structure. For centuries, this stone has been used in monumental and sacred architecture, and in this case, it becomes the medium of an intimate and personal story. Its strength ensures permanence, while its gentle brightness perfectly conveys human emotion and subtle detail.

The Creative Process

The creation of a sculpture like this takes several months. Each stage requires precision, focus, and artistic sensibility. The process begins with sketches and modelling, followed by rough carving, and then detailed work, during which the sculpture gradually takes on its character and individuality. In the final stage, the smallest and most delicate details are highlighted – the ones that give the piece its recognisable and unique identity.

Distinctive Details of the Sculpture

Special attention is given to the girl’s face, carefully sculpted with glasses – a detail that reflects her personality and life story. By her side, the dog in stone is depicted in a dynamic and playful pose, full of character and loyalty. Between the girl and her dog, there is a clear interaction – a moment of togetherness and play. The girl holds a ball in her hand, intended for the dog, immortalising a scene of joy, play, and companionship carved into stone.

Artistic and Emotional Value

This sculpture is not just a piece of stonework – it is an artistic memorial that carries deep emotional meaning and a personal story. It honours life and the timeless bond between humans and their faithful companions. Every strike of the chisel shapes not only the stone, but also memory, legacy, and a lasting emotional message for future generations.
