How a unique stone tomb is created – from idea to installation

Every unique stone tomb created in our workshop is the result of careful consideration, artistic design, expert stonemasonry skills and deep respect for the memory of the deceased. In this text, we guide you through the entire process — from the first idea to the final installation at the cemetery.

1. Consultation with the client and initial concept

Everything begins with a conversation. We want to understand the client’s wishes and emotions, and we are often inspired by the story of the deceased — their personality, achievements and the memories the family wishes to preserve through the monument. Based on this, we prepare an initial sketch that already suggests the overall shape and motifs of the tomb.

2. Technical drawings and/or clay modelling

Once the basic concept is agreed upon, we create technical drawings and, very often, a clay model. This stage allows for a clear visualisation of the final monument and gives us the opportunity to highlight the individuality of the deceased through sculptural details. Only after the client approves the model do we proceed to the next phase.

3. Stone selection and preparation

We select the highest quality white Brač stone, known for its beauty and durability. It is important to us to use local Croatian stone rather than imported materials. Every block is carefully inspected to ensure that the surface is flawless.

4. Cutting and shaping

Once the stone is ready, we begin crafting each component of the tomb individually before assembling them into a unified whole. At this stage, our master stonemasons shape the stone both mechanically and by hand until the tomb achieves its final form. If the tomb includes a sculpture, the process begins with point-by-point transferring of measurements from the model to the stone (pointing), followed by fine finishing — smooth or rough, depending on the family’s wishes.

5. Trial assembly and installation at the cemetery

When the tomb is fully completed, we first perform a test assembly in our workshop so the client can approve the final appearance. The installation at the cemetery requires precision and experience to ensure that every piece fits perfectly and is structurally stable.

The creation of a unique stone tomb requires time, expertise and heart. Each one is different — because every story it tells is unique. If you desire a dignified and personally designed stone monument, you can trust us to create a lasting and meaningful tribute.
