Tomb of the Grgurin Family

- another unique and artistically designed tomb created in our workshop showcases the mastery of Brač white stone craftsmanship and a modern approach to memorial architecture. At first glance, this tomb captures attention with its soft, curved form – the entire structure is shaped like an arc, with the headstone surface following the same gentle line, creating a sense of harmony and movement within the stone. The central headstone is covered with two large stone forms, sculpted as organic leaves that gracefully overlap. These fluid, natural shapes contrast beautifully with the geometric base, introducing a poetic dialogue between nature and structure. The opposition between architectural precision and organic motion gives this tomb its visual strength and unique identity. On the front side, a stone medallion features a relief inspired by Michelangelo’s masterpiece, meticulously carved by academic sculptor Lovre Jakšić. This detail adds artistic depth and classical refinement, linking historic artistry with contemporary stone design. Created in collaboration with architect Ivanka Filipović, the tomb achieves a perfect balance between architecture, sculpture, and symbolism. The pure white surface of Brač stone, paired with refined forms, accentuates the elegance and serenity of the piece. This work demonstrates that tomb design can transcend functionality – becoming an artistic expression where stone craftsmanship and emotional symbolism merge into a timeless creation that radiates dignity, beauty, and permanence.
