Tomb for the Allinson Family, France
- this elegant tomb made of white Brač stone is located in a peaceful French cemetery, where its brightness and simplicity stand out among the darker granite monuments that dominate the surroundings. The design is by Dražen Jakšić, realised as an example of contemporary stone artistry that bridges Mediterranean tradition and European context. The entire tomb is conceived as a single stone composition – clean, precise lines and a softly curved back surface create a sense of fluidity within a monumental form. The stone is finely finished with a matte surface that highlights its natural texture and tone. The central element, a minimalist gravestone, rests on a solid base and gently rises towards the back, where the family name is carved into the upright slab. Within the French cemetery landscape, this tomb clearly stands out as an example of Croatian craftsmanship and Brač stone aesthetics. While dark granite monuments convey coldness and rigidity, white Brač stone brings light, purity and serenity. Its soft reflection of sunlight adds warmth and sophistication while preserving a sense of dignity and permanence. This project also represents an important aspect of Croatian stone export, reaffirming its reputation across Europe. Brač stone has long been admired in architecture and sculpture, and works such as this one demonstrate its timeless quality and expressive power. The Allinson family tomb symbolises the union of tradition, contemporary design and masterful stonemasonry — where simplicity transforms into elegance and white stone becomes a bearer of light and peace.
