Tomb for the Babić Family

- this tomb, located in Čakovec, stands out as one of the most distinctive examples of a contemporary approach to tomb design. Unlike traditional memorials, the dominant element of this tomb is a large circular form, carved entirely from stone. The circle serves as the central symbol of the design – representing eternity, unity, perfection, and the cyclical nature of life. It has no beginning and no end, much like the enduring memory of loved ones. This symbolic strength gives the tomb a calm yet deeply emotional presence. Resting on the circular base is a massive stone cross, which creates a striking contrast between the soft continuity of the circle and the firm geometry of the cross. Together, these two elements form a powerful visual and spiritual composition, expressing both faith and eternity. The engraved inscriptions are placed along the upper surface of the circle, maintaining a balanced harmony between symbolism and minimalism. The stone surface is carefully polished, enhancing the natural texture and purity of the material. The creation of this tomb required great craftsmanship and precision in stonemasonry. The stone cross for the tomb and its circular form are made from white stone, giving the monument an elegant and timeless appearance. The tomb for the Babić family was designed by Dražen Jakšić, whose artistic vision unites modern design, architectural clarity, and symbolic depth. This tomb is not only a place of remembrance but also a work of sculptural art, where stone becomes a medium of emotion and eternal peace.
