Tomb for the Filipović Family
- this tomb made of white Brač stone is an exceptional example of sculptural and stonemasonry craftsmanship, where the creation of a tomb and headstone design merge into a harmonious and striking whole. Seemingly simple in structure yet rich in detail, the tomb radiates monumentality and refined aesthetics. At its centre stands a stone sculpture of a girl leaning against the headstone. Her posture – bowed head and hand gently holding a flower wreath – expresses sorrow, remembrance, and silence. The sculpture is crafted with an extraordinary sense of volume and proportion; in every movement and fold of the stone drapery, one can sense emotional depth and sculptural precision. The statue was created in collaboration with academic sculptor Veno Jerković, adding further artistic value to the entire project. The composition is based on a balance between curved and straight lines. The dominant soft forms give the tomb a sense of serenity, while clean horizontal surfaces bring architectural clarity. The richly profiled edges at the front, executed in several levels, enhance the elegance and emphasise the light reflections on the stone’s surface. On both sides of the sculpture, two symmetrical stone vases frame the composition. More than decoration, they are an integral part of the architectural rhythm – the flowers emerging from them symbolise life and continuity between past and present. This tomb with a stone figure exemplifies how stone craftsmanship and contemporary sculpture can unite in a timeless work of art. Every detail – from the profiles to the sculpture itself – reflects devotion to material, respect for tradition, and a profound emotional presence that makes this memorial truly unique.
