Tomb for Šimat Banov

- this tomb, created for the renowned Croatian art historian Šimat Banov, stands as one of the most elegant works from our workshop. Located in a historic cemetery, it is crafted from white Brač stone, whose purity and refinement enhance the sense of serenity and timelessness that define the entire composition. The design, signed by Dražen Jakšić, the owner and director of our workshop, embodies a fusion of contemporary form and traditional symbolism. The tomb appears as though sculpted from a single block of stone, with soft, rounded transitions that make the surface seem to flow naturally over the base. The form recalls the image of a parchment — a symbol of knowledge, writing, and the lasting legacy of words — perfectly suited to the life and work of Šimat Banov. At the back of the tomb, the headstone rises as a clean vertical surface, into which a glass cross has been embedded. This subtle, modern detail introduces light and transparency, creating a dialogue between the solidity of stone and the spirituality of glass. The creation of this tomb required exceptional precision and care. Every joint and surface was hand-finished to preserve the stone’s integrity, while the inscriptions were engraved delicately into the material, maintaining a minimalist and harmonious appearance. This white Brač stone tomb exemplifies how the craft of tomb and headstone making can transcend function and become a true work of art — uniting tradition, symbolism, and contemporary aesthetics into a dignified and lasting monument.
