Tomb for the Zelić Family

- the Jakšić stonemasonry workshop proudly presents the tomb for the Zelić family, one of our works that stands out for its monumentality and modern design. This large tomb, crafted from white Brač stone, combines contemporary lines and profound symbolism into a unique whole. From the very first glance, it is clear that this tomb differs from conventional solutions. Its edges do not follow the standard rectangular grid; instead, the surfaces rise and fall, creating movement and dynamism within solid stone. The family name engraved on the main tomb slab does not appear in a conventional typographic style but rather resembles a handwritten signature. This gives the monument a deeply personal and intimate character. The headstone (lapida) carries a particularly powerful symbolism. At first sight, it appears as a flat surface divided into four parts, representing the four members of the family. Yet one of these parts is shifted, symbolising the tragic loss of a young family member. This gesture in stone, simple yet striking, conveys grief and absence, while at the same time affirming the eternal bond with those who remain. An important aspect of the process was the design itself, which was created in close collaboration between a member of the family and our chief designer, Dražen Jakšić. This collaboration gave rise to a tomb that is not only a monument but also a deeply personal story and a lasting testimony to a profound family tragedy. The Zelić family tomb demonstrates how white Brač stone, in the hands of master craftsmen and through carefully considered design, can express the deepest emotions and become an enduring symbol of love, remembrance, and respect.
