Vladislavić Family Tomb

- the tomb of the Vladislavić family in Mirca on the island of Brač is a refined and technically demanding example of traditional stone craftsmanship. Designed according to the concept and sketch by Dražen Jakšić, it is executed entirely in white Brač stone, known for its density, durability, and suitability for precise carving — key qualities for high-category tomb construction. The structure follows a classic, elegant composition defined by clear geometry, rich profiles, and carefully balanced proportions. The combination of finely polished surfaces with bush-hammered textures creates a dynamic interplay of light while emphasising the natural beauty of the stone. A central feature of the tomb is the upright stone slab that serves as the monument. On this slab is a sculptural relief of a woman, representing sorrow and contemplation. This sculpture for the tomb is executed in a high-relief technique requiring skilled anatomical understanding and controlled modelling. The gently lowered head, the posture of the hands, and the fluidity of the drapery highlight the craftsmanship invested in this work. One part of the stone slab is intentionally left in its natural “cortex” state. This preserved surface creates a contrast between raw material and refined sculpture. A delicately engraved cross is placed within this natural stone texture, enhancing the symbolic value of the composition. The overall layout of the tomb is constructed from multiple precisely cut stone blocks, with attention to structural stability, drainage, and long-term durability. The refined profiles and clean edges add to the monument’s calm and dignified character. This project demonstrates the high level of expertise in the creation of tombs in Brač stone, combining technical precision with aesthetic refinement — ensuring a lasting, dignified memorial for the Vladislavić family.
