At this year’s Stonemasons’ Symposium in Pučišća, the Jakšić workshop won the first prize in the category Best Functional Element, once again confirming its excellence in the field of stone craftsmanship. This prestigious recognition was awarded to our master craftsman Dražen Jakšić for designing and creating the tomb of the legendary Croatian national football team coach, Miroslav Ćiro Blažević.
The tomb, crafted from premium white Brač stone, is located in the distinguished Avenue of the Greats at Zagreb’s Mirogoj Cemetery – a site dedicated to the most influential figures of Croatian culture, history and sport. Its placement adds symbolic value, honouring one of the most iconic personalities in Croatian sports.
The design merges traditional stonemasonry techniques with a contemporary sculptural approach, resulting in a calm, dignified and powerful form. Several carefully executed details reflect Ćiro’s charisma, energy and achievements. The balance between aesthetics, symbolism and functionality was among the key qualities highlighted by the jury.
The decision was made by a highly respected panel of experts:
Academician Nikola Bašić, M.Arch.
Academician Dinko Kovačić, M.Arch.
Prof. Nenad Fabijanić, M.Arch.
Grand Master Zdravko Matijašić
Their verdict confirms this project as an exceptional example of quality, innovation and technical execution.
This marks the third Tripun Bokanić Award won by the Jakšić family at the Pučišća Stonemasonry Symposium — a testament to their long-standing dedication, expertise and continuous development of top-level craftsmanship.
The award was proudly accepted on behalf of the Jakšić workshop by Jurica Šimunović, a dedicated member of our team.
The tomb of Ćiro Blažević thus stands not only as a place of remembrance but also as a remarkable example of artistic and stonemasonry excellence, recognised at the highest professional level.
