Tomb for the Niederegger Family
- this tomb carries a deeply emotional story and represents one of the most touching works created in our workshop. It was commissioned as a tribute to a great family tragedy, after the loss of a young boy. His mother wished for a sculpture for the tomb that would depict her child in life-size, preserving his presence and memory forever. The sculpture was created by academic sculptor Lovre Jakšić, following a long and meticulous process. The portrait for the tomb was first modelled in clay, then cast in plaster, and finally carved in stone using the pointing technique. Lovre succeeded in transferring the boy’s expression, posture, and delicate character with striking authenticity, creating a stone figure for the headstone that radiates warmth and emotion. The tomb design itself is simple and calm, allowing the sculpture to remain the focal point. The boy is seated on a stone block inscribed with his name, looking slightly downward, evoking a sense of quiet reflection and serenity. Through this artistic approach, the tomb becomes not only a resting place but also a true work of art in stone. The remaining elements of the tomb are shaped with clean, minimalist lines, giving full prominence to the stone sculpture and its emotional strength. This project beautifully unites craftsmanship, sculpture, and memory, showing how a portrait for a tomb can express not only grief, but also love, remembrance, and eternal presence.
