Tomb for the Sekulović Family
- one of the finest tombs from our workshop, crafted from white Brač stone, stands out for its refined structure and artistic harmony. This tomb for the Sekulović family combines masterful stonemasonry craftsmanship with an expressive artistic approach, where every detail – from the stone profiles to the sculpture – reflects skill, precision, and timeless beauty. The base of the tomb features richly profiled stonework, with a balanced interplay of curved and straight lines. This combination creates a sense of monumentality, while the refined surface treatment brings calmness and elegance. The composition is both structured and fluid, allowing light to softly move across the stone’s texture. The most striking element of the design is the impressive stone sculpture created by academic sculptor Lovre Jakšić. The figure of a young woman holding a ship’s wheel serves as an allegory of navigation – a symbolic reflection of life’s journey and a tribute to the family’s maritime heritage. The deceased, a ship’s captain, is represented through this symbolic image: the woman’s bowed head expresses mourning, while her wind-blown hair carved in stone evokes the spirit of the sea and motion. At the front of the tomb, a round stone vase adds balance and refinement. Turned with precision from the same Brač stone, it complements the sculptural composition and reinforces the overall harmony. This tomb for the Sekulović family is a testament to how traditional stone carving and fine art sculpture can unite in a single work of lasting beauty. Every element – from form to symbolism – tells a story of life, voyage, and memory, deeply tied to the sea.
