Tomb for Sisters of Mercy / designed by Sister Zdravka Milić

- In our Jakšić Stonemasonry Workshop, a new monumental work has been created – a tomb for the convent of the Sisters of Mercy of Saint Vincent de Paul. The project was developed in collaboration with Sister Zdravka Milić, an artist and painter educated at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome, whose conceptual design served as the foundation. Our team transformed it into a lasting stone creation that unites art, spirituality, and the centuries-old tradition of stonemasonry on Brač. At the centre of the monumental headstone is the motif of the Resurrection, while a red line carved through the pure white Brač stone symbolises Christ’s sacrifice and shed blood. This powerful symbol of faith is further highlighted by mosaics representing the Precious Blood, Resurrection, and eternal life. The vivid colours of the mosaics create a striking contrast to the whiteness of the stone, giving the tomb the character of a sacred artwork. Our workshop specialises in the construction of tombs and headstones from white Brač stone, always tailored to the wishes and needs of our clients. Precise letter carving, unique details, and custom-made solutions ensure that every creation becomes distinctive and deeply personal. This monumental tomb will remain a lasting symbol of faith and eternal life, and proof that tomb construction can be both masterful craftsmanship and artistic vision.
